Details
Designed by Barry Dixon, the Egg Drop Pendant arrives as a counterweight to the typical pendant fixture. A substantial bronze egg serves as ballast, allowing the hood to settle at whatever height suits the room's proportions and the table below. This mechanical honesty, the visible weight doing its job, gives the piece an almost sculptural quality, less decorative object than functional form. The hood itself is modest in scale, finished in dull bronze and antiqued brass that age gracefully under use.
These muted metals read as restraint rather than statement, the kind of finish that deepens with time and dust. In a dining room, the pendant casts a focused pool of light downward while the egg hangs visible, a small bronze sphere that catches the eye at glance level. The adjustability matters practically. A pendant that locks into one height often feels either too high or too low once installed. Here, the weight system lets you dial in the exact drop, whether you're lighting a bar counter or a kitchen island.
The mechanism is straightforward enough that it becomes part of the design rather than hidden away. What distinguishes this fixture is its refusal to perform. No frosted glass diffuser softening the light, no decorative details competing for attention. Just the hood, the brass, the bronze egg, and the cable. In a space already considered, it disappears into the architecture. In a sparse room, it becomes the room's most deliberate gesture.
