Details
The Antibes Chandelier in Natural Rattan draws its presence from the interplay between woven material and geometric form. Currey and Company constructed this piece using traditional rattan weaving techniques, where each strand is layered to create a substantial, sculptural body. The khaki wrought iron frame anchors the rattan, its linear geometry offsetting the organic texture of the woven surface.
Scale matters here. At grand proportions, the chandelier commands a room without demanding attention through ornament. The natural rattan develops a soft patina over time, catching light differently depending on the hour and season. Hung above a dining table or entry hall, it casts gentle shadows that shift across walls and surfaces as the sun moves. The material choice speaks to restraint.
Rather than gilt or crystal, the designer selected rattan for its warmth and its ability to soften the geometry of the frame. This restraint allows the piece to integrate into contemporary interiors without competing with furnishings or architectural detail. The neutral tone reads as both sculptural object and functional light source, a balance that few chandeliers achieve. The craftsmanship lies in the precision of the weave and the proportion of void to solid. These details determine whether a geometric chandelier feels heavy or buoyant, whether it anchors a space or floats within it.
